At the Chigiana Academy

Alfredo Sorichetti 3

In 1994 and 1995 I attended the Chigiana Academy in Siena.

I past the three pre selections to take part in the academy: the first was for academy qualifications and concerts. The other two selections were conducting a big symphonic orchestra. Great! I could finally take part in the mythic Accademia Chigiana di Siena! I was so happy!

I really learned a lot at the Chigiana Academy. We had extraordinary teachers: Iliya Musin, the dean of the great Russian school of conducting, who taught famous conductors like Valery Gergiev, and Semyon Bychkov, among others. Great lessons I received from Musin’s wisdom and skill!

I was one of the conductors chosen for the final concert: I really enjoyed conducting a Haydn’s  symphony!

Another teacher was Myung-Whun Chung from whom I have acquired extraordinary tips. All of us were like sponges, that absorbed every gesture, every word and every expression from him.

Conducting a professional orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, every day for fourty days, especially at the beginning of our studies, was very important; in fact I improved a lot during that period.
